When we wake up, our dreams usually fade quickly. By the time we rub our eyes and crawl out of bed, the vivid visions, including the winning lottery numbers, have faded. As we sip our morning coffee, we're mostly left mumbling about how we slept.
Unfortunately, according to the current state of science, we can only rely on the hidden abilities of our own minds to recall fleeting images. However, memory foam mattresses can help many people prevent nighttime tossing and turning and embarrassing lower back pain.
“Smart mattress”? Artificial intelligence?
Sounds exciting, right? A fantastic idea that could be brought to the big screen and inspire Hollywood producers, because if you look at it with a little kindness, it's not that far from reality...
There is of course no reason to panic, let's state this right from the start:
The “Terminator” has not moved into bedrooms.
This popular member of the synthetic foam group has amazing capabilities, but its manufacturers can hardly claim the laurels of software companies, or even giants in the electronics industry or robotics. Memory foams and the mattresses, pillows, and accessories made from them may be part of our everyday lives, but they can serve our comfort in a different way than complicated smartphones.
What's so special about them?
Well, the mystique of memory foam would probably be unimaginable without the famous National Aeronautics and Space Administration of the United States, NASA. According to historians, at least, the “slow spring” foams, which have found a place in healthcare and then in family beds, were originally intended for space capsules carrying cosmonauts by researchers burning with the fever of preparations for landing on the moon in the 1960s.
Nothing more is needed to bring a legend to life. It is irrelevant whether memory foams have ever orbited the Earth or reached the Moon, a good story is enough to arouse interest. A tale that Czinger Home, with decades of experience in the production and sale of mattresses that ensure comfortable and healthy sleep, has long since surpassed.
Under the guidance of our trained consultant, Attila Czinger , you can learn about memory foam mattresses in detail and get help finding and choosing the mattress that best suits you.
Before you dial our Mattress Webshop or visit our showroom, take a few minutes to daydream and read our information below!
We have briefly summarized what you should know about space-age memory foams in advance.
From dream to reality
The memory foam mattress is undoubtedly the reality. But what a reality! The material, which reacts sensitively to both the temperature of its environment and the pressure applied to its surface, has, according to experts, brought about a revolutionary change in the world of bed mattresses.
Synthetic foam, coming out of laboratories focused on space research and working with billion-dollar budgets, has made it possible to produce mattresses that perfectly adapt to the shape of the body lying on it, providing proper support at all points, yet are soft at the same time.
How?
The trick is simple. The secret of memory foam is that its material softens with the heat of the human body, sinks under the weight of the person, and embraces the person who wants to rest. At the same time, its deeper layers, which extend a few centimeters from the user's skin, retain their original elasticity, so they properly support their load for hours...
It's easy to see that if we can comfortably lie down on a pleasantly soft mattress, and our mattress maintains the shape of our body throughout the night, so to speak, "remembers" our favorite position, we can have an incredibly relaxing sleep.
So far, the theory and practice are usually a little different.
Practice is at the forefront
Let's start by saying that the properties of memory foam mattresses vary depending on the design, and the most important differences are invisible to the naked eye. It is difficult to tell at a glance what density or elasticity of foam we are dealing with, and it is worth seeking expert advice when interpreting official information.
At Czinger Home , we believe that we can sleep most comfortably on a surface with a hard structure, which provides good support, and at the same time a softness selected according to individual needs.
You decide how firm you want your mattress to be…
Feel free to experiment! You can try out our mattresses in our showroom, but we are also happy to provide guidance.
Remember: fifty divided by fifteen, or 50/15…
The values displayed in the numerator of the fractional pairs of numbers indicating the properties of modern foams show how many kilograms of the polyurethane that gives the mattress its name were added to per cubic meter of the material. In the case of memory foam mattresses, it is the "viscoelastic" memory foam itself.
For an average-sized person, among the foams mixed to rationalize the costs of production technology, those with a density of 50 may be a suitable solution.
And what's at the bottom? We can syllabify the value indicating elasticity from the denominator. For example, a mattress with good shape-following properties can be marked 50/15, while a cheaper one that is less conformable to the body shape can be marked 30/15.
Is that all?
No, not at all. To complicate matters, memory foam mattresses are usually made of two layers. The base is a high-quality cold foam, with memory foam glued to the surface.
In the case of high-quality mattresses, each foam layer has its own comfort zones. They are profiled separately, meaning that the softness is adjusted to the needs of the head, shoulders, back, waist, buttocks, and legs with thin grooves cut into the surface. This is completed by the chaotic structure of tiny holes and bubbles enclosed inside the foam materials.
Does size matter?
Yes, the properties of memory foam mattresses are determined by the thickness of the layers lying on top of each other. A twenty-centimeter layer of cold foam can be replaced with two to four, or even ten-centimeter layers of memory foam. Some people will find the former perfectly suitable, while others will find it too hard... Some people will like the latter, while you might find the thick padding uncomfortably spongy.
Everyone should decide for themselves?
It's important to test your mattress thoroughly. It's also worth taking a little more time to test memory foam products, as the foam, which softens when heated, doesn't respond immediately. It takes a few minutes for it to take on your body temperature and develop the characteristics you'd expect from actual use.
Let us tell you something else. Memory foam mattresses are affected by the temperature of their environment, including our showroom and your bedroom. In practice, this means that if you sleep in a cooler room than the one set on the thermostat in your Czinger Home salon, your memory foam mattress topper may feel harder in your home. In addition, the opposite temperature difference can also have an effect… If you turned up the heating, your mattress may feel softer than it did when we tried it out.
And don't spin it!
We only use one side of our double-layer memory foam mattresses… The special memory foam, the magic that makes you choose and take home your new mattress, only appears on the top side of the foam. That means there is no winter-summer rotation.
Don't get stuck on this either! At Czinger Home we have a solution. Put together your unique mattress with our help!
Choose a cold foam mattress that suits your needs, and take home a memory foam accessory, or topper. This way, in addition to being able to turn your mattress over, you can easily replace the memory layer on top at any time. This can come in handy if you want a cooler bed in the summer, or if you want to increase your comfort by adding a warm layer in the winter.
Well, don't be surprised! You already know what you should imagine a space age mattress to be like, but you'll only get to know its most important features in the sequel.
Memory
You've probably started to suspect that the point of a memory foam mattress isn't to provide an infallible memory. It's obvious that, regardless of its density and elasticity, your mattress won't call you by your name when you go to bed, and it doesn't matter if you can still see your body outline on the tight sheets for minutes after you get up. The former may become possible in the age of "smart mattresses," while the latter is simply a characteristic of synthetic foam that softens when exposed to heat.
So what is really important?
The point is that mattresses made of memory foam precisely follow the shape of the person lying on them and provide soft support to the body parts that are recessed into their surface. Back sleepers can experience a difference in the buttocks, shoulder blades, and head area, while side sleepers can forget about the usual, unpleasant pressure around the shoulders, hips, and thighs. You can avoid tossing and turning in the morning, as well as morning neck, waist, and back pain.
Healthcare institutions in the developed world quickly recognized the benefits of using memory foam. It is common experience that heat-responsive synthetic foam mattresses can prevent the development of pressure sores in patients confined to bed for long periods of time, but their beneficial effects can also be seen in family homes. They can relieve numbness in the limbs of those suffering from blood circulation problems and reduce joint pain. Their hypoallergenic material does not favor the appearance of dust mites, so the last refuge for allergy sufferers can be the nightstand.
Any crucial information left at the end?
There is one. The Achilles heel of memory foam mattresses is their specific “climate”. We mentioned it a few paragraphs above…
If you like to warm up your bed with a thicker duvet on winter nights, you might like memory foam. These materials retain the body heat of the person resting on them. The longer we spend on them, the softer they become, eventually conjuring up a tropical warmth around us.
Critics often mention that these foam mattresses are not always pleasant for those who do not tolerate heat well and are prone to sweating. That is why we should pay attention to the ventilation of their surface!
It is also true that due to their softness, memory foam mattresses are not conducive to gymnastics. Those looking for a comfortable bed can find an ideal solution in them, but as a tatami mat, we would recommend something else in the Czinger Home showroom.
